Shockingly, more than 800 people are injured or killed on Medway's roads every year.

Our Engage Your Brain campaign aims to remind you that simply becoming more aware of your surroundings and actions will help to ensure that you do not become one of these statistics.

The chances are that you've already spotted one of our Engage Your Brain logos's on the pavements, the bus stop posters or perhaps you have seen the Engage Your Brain cinema advertisement. You can download these here by clicking on the poster and cinema images.

No matter how old you are, there are many precautions you can take to protect yourself and here you will find a guide to maximise your safety, whether you're a pedestrian, driver, cyclist or motorcyclist.

Divided into three age groups including under 12's , young adults, and adults, each category provides a fun interactive guide illustrating the dangers that you need to be aware of. Each category offers users the opportunity to take part in our exciting interactive competition. You could be one of 30 lucky winners of Odeon Cinema tickets.

Under 12s

Stop, Look, Listen and Think! are 4 easy words. If you remember them EVERY time you cross the road, you'll be safer!

Sadly, lots of young children like you are still being seriously hurt on roads because they forget to pay attention. Other things like wearing a cycling helmet and bright or reflective clothing can also help you to stay safe.

You can't do two things at once, so engage your brain when you are using the roads, threat them with respect.

Bike riding is great fun but before you ride on Medway's busy roads, think about getting the latest new training. Click and check out Bikeability - you can do it in Medway!

Why not test how good you are on the road? Just answer the five questions below correctly and you could win £25 worth of Odeon cinema tickets.

Young Adults

Most teenagers and young adults have learnt some road safety skills and travel by foot, car or bicycle, no problem.

But did you know that a momentary lapse in concentration is more likely to occur in road users of your age group? Research has shown that 62 per cent of teenagers admitted to being distracted by talking to friends while crossing the road.

And in Medway, more drivers between the ages of 17 and 25 are being killed or injured on the roads than any other group of drivers.

In fact road collisions are the biggest single cause of death for 12 to 16 year olds, which can often be prevented by road users being more aware. Check out our interactive guide and make sure don't end up one of the statistics. Simply roll your mouse over the images to find out more.

So you may be surprised to learn that in 2007 the Department of Transport found that all parents surveyed admitted to taking 'calculated risks' from time to time in front of their children.

There are certain things you know you should never do whilst driving a vehicle such as drink driving or talking on your mobile phone but did you know, for example, that children up to 135cms (around 4'5\"), or up to 12 years old (whichever comes first), must now travel in the correct child seat?
